Check List For Moving A College Student

As the school year rolls around and students across the country are packing to embark on a whole new phase of life in college. It can be challenging to move your college student into a dorm or apartment without any help.

Get to Know the Campus In Advance

If you haven't already taken a campus tour in person, you can probably take a virtual tour online to get a better idea of the campus and how it is laid out. It can be confusing and disorienting to arrive in a strange place, but if you already have an idea of where everything is, you can arrange things much more easily and avoid a lot of stress.

Decide Where to Live

On-campus or off-campus? Moving into a dorm room is different from moving into an unfurnished apartment.

If you are moving into a dorm, you can probably get by with the essentials since there will already be furniture and common areas you can use. If you are moving into an off-campus apartment, you'll need to think about everything from shower curtains and dish soap to beds and couches.

Bring What Matters

Don't forget to bring things that are sentimentally important to you.

You don't need to leave everything behind as you start a new chapter in your life. It can be much easier to adapt and adjust to college life if you bring things that matter with you. Whether it is a poster, a stuffed animal, a musical instrument, a video game console, or something else entirely: bring things that comfort and calm you.

Decide When You're Coming Home

How you pack will also depend on how frequently you plan to return home.

If you plan to visit home in a month or so, you don't need to focus as much on bringing absolutely everything. You'll have a chance to bring more with you when you return to school after your visit home.
