Tips For Packing Mirrors & Frames

Moving to a new place is a thrilling and stressful venture. It can be intimidating when taking on the packing and protecting your belongings. When you have fragile items like mirrors and picture frames, extra care is needed. You have to work harder to ensure they arrive at your new destination unscathed. No matter where you're moving, these tips for packing help you safeguard your precious items.

Gather Your Packing Supplies

Before you begin packing, make sure you have the necessary supplies on hand. You want to be sure that you have mirror boxes. These special boxes are designed specifically to protect mirrors and artwork. Bubble wrap provides extra protection against shocks and impacts. Packing paper and tape are necessary to wrap and secure your items.

Measure Your Mirrors and Frames

The first step is to measure your mirrors and frames to determine the appropriate box sizes. The boxes should be slightly larger than your items to allow space for padding and protection. Most moving supply stores offer various box sizes to accommodate different dimensions.

Wrap with Care

Each mirror or frame must be wrapped in several layers of packing paper. Place the item face down on a flat surface and start wrapping from one corner. Once you do this, you want to work your way diagonally across the item. Secure the paper with packing tape to keep it in place. After the initial layer of packing paper, apply a layer of bubble wrap for extra cushioning. You want to be sure to tape the bubble wrap securely to prevent it from unraveling.

The corners of mirrors and frames are particularly vulnerable to damage. You want to be sure to protect them with corner protectors. You can purchase protectors or construct your own. They are easy to assemble by folding extra pieces of cardboard and taping them securely to the corners of your items.

Select the Right Box

Choose a mirror box that fits your item comfortably. If you don't have a mirror box, no worries. You can also use a picture box or a flat-screen TV box. Then, place crumpled packing paper at the bottom of the box for added cushioning. Line the inside of the box with additional packing paper and bubble wrap to create a soft cushion for your item. You can also place a piece of cardboard on the bottom for added stability.

Securely Place Your Item

Carefully slide your wrapped mirror or frame into the box. Make sure it fits snugly, but you want to be careful not to force it. Fill any gaps with more packing paper to prevent shifting during transit. Clearly label the box as “Fragile” and indicate which side should be kept up. This labeling alerts your Bucks County movers to exercise caution when handling the box. If you're packing multiple mirrors or frames in the same box or stacking boxes, add extra padding between each item. Additional padding prevents them from coming into contact with each other.

For exceptionally valuable or oversized mirrors and frames, consider custom crating. Professional movers can create custom wooden crates designed to fit and protect your items perfectly.
